GJA slams GNFS PRO, calls for immediate removal

GJA President Albert Dwumfour

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has demanded the immediate dismissal of DOII Desmond Ackah from his position as Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

This demand follows allegations that officers of the GNFS physically attacked a journalist from Class Media Group who was reporting on a fire outbreak at the Kasoa New Market on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, January 6, GJA President Albert Dwumfour strongly condemned the manner in which DOII Ackah has handled the matter, describing his conduct as unprofessional.

According to Mr Dwumfour, the GNFS spokesperson’s engagement with the media clearly shows that he lacks the suitability to continue in the role. He accused Ackah of openly justifying the conduct of the officers involved with what he termed an attitude of arrogance and disrespect.

“He has shown clear ineptitude and repeatedly contradicted himself,” Dwumfour said. “The media should not be compelled to engage with him. This statement serves as a formal notice for urgent action to be taken. At the very least, he should be removed from his post, reassigned, or placed under interdiction. We do not want him to remain in that position.”
