Gender equality: President Mahama calls on world leaders to take decisive action

President John Dramani Mahama has called on world leaders to take decisive action to protect and advance the progress made in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment over the past three decades.
Speaking at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing, President Mahama warned that rising unilateralism and global instability threaten to reverse the achievements recorded under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He urged leaders, particularly across Africa, to remain steadfast in safeguarding the gains made since the 1995 Beijing Conference on Women, which marked a major milestone in the global struggle for gender equality.
“Gender equality is not just a matter of justice—it is a driver of sustainable development,” President Mahama stated. “When women thrive, families prosper, communities are stronger, and nations progress.”
The President called on governments and development partners to move beyond rhetoric and commit to transformative, measurable action that accelerates equality and empowerment for women and girls.
“Let Beijing+30 be a turning point—one that accelerates the realization of gender equality and women’s empowerment for all,” he concluded.
President Mahama’s remarks reaffirm Ghana’s leadership role in global advocacy for gender equality and reflect his long-standing commitment to inclusive development and the empowerment of women.
