Government temporarily suspends citizenship applications for historical diasporans
The Ministry of the Interior and the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President (DAOOP) have announced the temporary suspension of the application process for Ghanaian citizenship by historical diasporans.
In a statement, the two institutions said the pause forms part of efforts to streamline and improve the overall application system to make it more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly for members of the diaspora.
According to the statement, the decision is aimed at enhancing the experience for applicants while refinements are introduced to ensure smoother processing in the future.
The Interior Ministry and the Diaspora Affairs Office reaffirmed their commitment to welcoming members of the global African family to Ghana and said work is ongoing to strengthen the framework for citizenship applications.
They added that revised timelines and updated guidelines will be communicated through official channels once the improvements are completed.
The institutions also expressed appreciation to prospective applicants for their interest and cooperation, assuring them that the process will resume shortly.
