Greater Accra Minister urges strict enforcement of by-laws

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Miss Linda Obenewaa Ocloo, has tasked the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly to intensify enforcement of its by-laws to ensure effective decongestion within the municipality.
She made the call during the inauguration of the newly constructed Nii Adjor Market in Ashaiman, a project she said would provide a lasting solution to street trading and congestion that frequently obstructs pedestrian and vehicular movement in the area.
The ultra-modern facility, initiated under the previous administration, features 1,192 stores, shops, sheds, a lorry terminal, a fire station, and toilet facilities.
Ms. Ocloo noted that the market would be fully aligned with the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy, aimed at maximising economic potential, empowering local businesses, and boosting socio-economic growth in the Greater Accra Region.
She further encouraged traders to maintain the facility to serve future generations.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Ashaiman, Freeman Tsekpo, emphasised that the market is adequately equipped to support continuous trading under President John Dramani Mahama’s flagship initiative.
He pledged the Assembly’s commitment to enforcing regulations to ensure the facility’s orderly use.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Ashaiman, Nii Annan Adjor, in whose honour the market was named, appealed to the Minister to prioritise the redevelopment of the Ashaiman Main Market.
He also urged her to push for fair distribution of development projects for the municipality, citing Ashaiman’s long-standing loyalty to the NDC.
