Mahama inaugurates 12-member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy
President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a 12-member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE) to help reposition Ghana’s economy towards stability, credibility, and long-term growth.
The President tasked members of the advisory body with providing strategic guidance to enable the government rebuild investor confidence, restore fiscal discipline, attract sustainable investment, and reset economic expectations.
He stressed that PAGE’s mandate goes beyond routine consultations, urging the group to play a transformative role in shaping institutional reforms and strengthening Ghana’s economic governance framework.
“The responsibility of this group is not merely to offer advice,” President Mahama said.
“Your work must contribute to structural transformation, institutional reform, and a permanent reset of our economic governance culture.
We must re-establish Ghana as a serious, predictable, and competitive economy.”
According to the President, the formation of PAGE forms part of broader efforts to confront prevailing economic challenges and chart a clear path toward resilience and sustainable development.
Speaking on behalf of the members, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who also serves on the advisory group, assured the President of their commitment to delivering independent, rigorous, and practical counsel to support government decision-making.
She explained that PAGE would complement existing state institutions by offering critical insights, testing policy assumptions, and recommending solutions informed by global best practices while remaining tailored to Ghana’s unique circumstances.
In a reflective remark, the Vice President emphasised the human impact of economic policies, urging members to continually consider how their recommendations affect ordinary citizens.
“We must constantly rethink what the economy means for the everyday Ghanaian,” she said, stressing that sound economic management must ultimately translate into improved living conditions and shared national prosperity.
The establishment of PAGE is expected to strengthen policy coordination and provide the government with expert guidance as it works to stabilise the economy and drive inclusive growth.
