Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has indicated that the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, commonly referred to as the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, could still be reconsidered by Parliament despite its approval by the House.

According to him, parliamentary procedures allow Members of Parliament to introduce a motion seeking to reverse or review a previous decision taken on the legislation.

His remarks come in the wake of the Bill’s passage, a development that was followed by renewed calls for further reflection on its provisions.

Addressing members of the Supreme Court’s 150th Anniversary Planning Committee during a courtesy visit on Thursday, June 11, Mr. Bagbin rejected suggestions that Parliament has reached a deadlock over the controversial legislation, maintaining that established parliamentary processes provide avenues for further action should the House deem it necessary.

The Speaker also called for reforms in the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court.

The Speaker further stressed that he is not bound to take directives and instructions from what any President says, indicating that he owes his allegiance and duty to the MPs who elect him and the country.
