The Constitution of Ghana Amendment Bill, 2025 has been laid before Parliament of Ghana for consideration.

The bill seeks to amend the Constitution to remove restrictions that prevent dual citizens and persons who owe allegiance to another country from holding certain public offices in Ghana.

The offices affected include Ambassador or High Commissioner, Secretary to the Cabinet, Chief of Defence Staff or any Service Chief, and Inspector-General of Police.

Following its First Reading, the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, referred the bill to Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee for further consideration and a report.

The committee is expected to examine the proposed amendments and present its findings to the House before further parliamentary action is taken.
