The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Mahama-led administration to eradicate illegal mining (galamsey) across the country, pledging to “do whatever it takes” to end the menace.

His assurance follows the presentation of ten brand-new pickup vehicles and laptops to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) by the ministry to enhance their operations in the ongoing fight against illegal mining.

Speaking to the media on Friday, October 31, 2025, Mr. Buah emphasised that the government remains resolute in supporting NAIMOS with the necessary logistics and resources to ensure success in protecting Ghana’s natural resources.

“The Ministry and the Mahama-led administration are deeply committed to fighting illegal mining, no matter the cost. NAIMOS represents the last line of defence in preserving our forest reserves and water bodies.”

He further urged NAIMOS officials not to compromise their integrity in the discharge of their duties, describing their work as crucial to the nation’s environmental sustainability.

The Minister also commended traditional leaders who have been instrumental in the anti-galamsey campaign, while cautioning those involved in illegal mining that the government will not hesitate to take action against them.

Mr. Buah reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to ensuring that NAIMOS receives all necessary support to sustain the fight against illegal mining.

Meanwhile, the Director of Communications at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Mawusi Ama Mawuenyefia, commended the Minister and the government for their consistent support to NAIMOS, noting that the provision of logistics will greatly enhance the agency’s effectiveness.
