A joint, intelligence-led nighttime operation by the Cyber Security Authority of Ghana, in collaboration with National Security and the Ghana Police Service, has led to the arrest of 48 suspected cybercrime operatives in the Dawhenya area of the Ningo-Prampram Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.

The operation, carried out as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle organised cybercrime networks, targeted what authorities describe as a major cybercrime hub operating within the area.

Preliminary interrogation indicates that the suspects are believed to be Nigerian nationals, made up of 46 males and two females.

Investigators say the group is linked to a range of cyber-related criminal activities, including romance scams, online investment fraud, impersonation schemes and illicit online gold trading.

Security operatives retrieved several items believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes.

These include 54 laptops, 39 mobile phones, one Starlink internet device and eight MTN TurboNet routers.

Officials say the arrests represent a significant blow to organised cybercrime syndicates operating within Ghana’s digital space.

The operation forms part of a broader strategy to conduct precise, intelligence-driven interventions aimed at protecting the country’s cyber ecosystem.

Authorities reaffirmed Ghana’s openness to foreigners and investors engaged in legitimate business, while stressing that the country will remain hostile to individuals and groups involved in cybercrime and other illicit digital activities.

Commending the officers involved, security officials praised the professionalism and discipline demonstrated during the operation, describing their conduct as consistent with the high standards for which Ghana’s security services are internationally recognised.

The suspects are currently in custody, assisting with investigations and are expected to be processed in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, the Cyber Security Authority has urged the public to remain vigilant online, as it continues its efforts to ensure a safe digital environment for citizens and businesses, particularly during the festive season and into the new year.
