Mobile Money vendor shot and robbed in Essuowin; police launch manhunt for suspect
Police in the Ashanti Region have begun a manhunt for suspects involved in the shooting and robbery of a mobile money vendor in Essuowin on Wednesday, 27th November 2025.
According to a report filed at the Nkawie District Police Command, the incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. when Akua Afriyie, a 40-year-old mobile money operator, was attacked, robbed, and shot by Kwabena Bioh and an accomplice who is currently on the run.
The victim’s sister, Georgina Antwi, reported the matter to the police around 8:45 p.m., prompting officers to accompany her to the Essuowin Model Health Centre. Upon arrival, police found Akua Afriyie receiving treatment for two gunshot wounds to her lower right abdomen.
She was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for advanced medical care.
Police say strenuous efforts are underway to arrest the second suspect and bring all persons involved to justice.
The Nkawie District Command has urged the public to remain calm and assist with relevant information that could aid the investigation.
