N/R: Police command and IGP take on rising criminal activities in Tamale with intensified offensive
The Northern Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team, has launched an intensified security offensive aimed at tackling rising criminal activities within the Tamale Metropolis.
The operation, which forms part of a broader yuletide security strategy, is designed to bolster public safety, maintain peace, and ensure that residents and visitors can move about freely without fear during the festive season.
According to police, several intelligence-led swoops had already been carried out in targeted criminal hotspots across the metropolism, the operations leading to the arrest of multiple suspects linked to various offences.
All arrested individuals have since been processed for court, with their cases currently before the Tamale Circuit Court.
However, during one of the special operations on Monday, December 1, 2025, a suspect reportedly engaged the police in a shootout.
He sustained gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead. His body has been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital for autopsy and further investigations.
The statement signed by Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, urged the public to remain calm and continue to have confidence in the Ghana Police Service as they rolled out enhanced crime-fighting strategies, especially against drug-related activities within the Tamale Metropolis.
