The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has announced the arrest of news editor Samuel Amadotor.

Police explained the arrest followed a complaint against Amadotor by a Mr Okatakye Boakye Danquah Ababio I, for "maliciously publishing false information on him".

The suspect's arrest was carried out with support from the National Signals Bureau (NSB).

Police said upon interrogation, Amadotor admitted to the offence and mentioned one Chairman Michael Yeboah as the one who contracted him to make the false publication.

"The said Chairman Michael Yeboah is being sought to assist the investigation," police said.

Police said in the meantime, Amadotor was in custody and would be put before court tomorrow, Friday, November 21, 2025.

While police did not indicate when the suspect was arrested, reports indicated he has been in custody for days.

According to journalist Ansah-Addo Halifax, Amadotor "was picked at 3 am from his bed," by police on Friday, November 14, 2025.

He said the suspect was questioned "mainly on who gave him the video he published and later pulled down.  

"He was released around 11 pm [that] same Friday and [was] asked to report back to Signals Bureau on Tuesday. He did. Since Tuesday, he is still LOCKED at the Ministry Police Station as I type.  

"Since when did not disclosing a source became a crime?" Halifax asked on Facebook.

In his Facebook post, investigative journalist Manasseh Azuri Awuni said Amadotor, per his findings, was "accused of using AI to create videos and insert real people's images in them, and some of his victims have reported to the police, who then sought the assistance of the NSB to arrest him

"My sources say one of his victims is the former NCA Board Chairman, Mr. Isaac Osei-Bonsu."

Later, Awuni bemoaned, "Why have you not put him before the court for this long? Why tomorrow, and not earlier? Some sources close to him say he has been in custody for more than 48 hours. What law allows you to keep a suspect for this long without putting him before the court? THIS LAW ON FALSE NEWS SHOULD BE REPEALED. If the person who made the report feels defamed, he can sue the journalist. This law has been abused for too long and we must stop it."
