Wontumi presenter caged for publication of false news

The Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region has detained Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a well-known radio and television presenter for Wontumi FM, over allegations of publishing false news, an offence under section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The presenter was summoned by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on November 23 and subsequently taken into custody.
Preparations are underway to bring him before the court.
The arrest follows claims that Mr. Asiedu allegedly urged voters to cast their ballots for Presidential Candidates on different days during the upcoming December 7 general elections.
The Ghana Police Service has labelled these remarks as “false and likely to disturb the public peace.”
