The Ministry of Education, through the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), has approved the fees and charges of the University of Ghana for the 2025/2026 academic year, following directives from the Minister for Education.

The approval was informed by a meeting chaired on January 8, 2026, by the Deputy Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak.

The meeting brought together officials from the Ministry of Education and GTEC, as well as the Council Chair, Management, and student representatives of the University of Ghana.

According to a press statement issued by Dr. Apaak, the Academic Facility User Fee has been pegged at the 2024/2025 rate, ensuring no increase for the upcoming academic year.

The approved fees and charges include SRC dues of GHS 50, an SRC Development Levy of GHS 150, and a Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) Development Levy of GHS 250.

Additionally, a Telecel broadband levy of GHS 122 has been approved across all levels for undergraduate students, including freshmen.

However, the levy has been classified as optional, and students must be adequately informed of their right to opt out.

The University’s 75th Anniversary levy has also been approved at GHS 100, but the Deputy Minister stressed that this fee must not be charged beyond the 2025/2026 academic year.

The government clarified that the approved fees and charges apply strictly to the University of Ghana and cannot be adopted by any other public tertiary institution in the country.

In a further move to ensure transparency and fairness in tertiary education financing, the Minister for Education has constituted a Fee Review Committee, chaired by Dr. Apaak, to assess future fee adjustment proposals from public tertiary institutions.

The committee will make recommendations to Parliament for approval.

The Ministry of Education has called for the cooperation of all stakeholders as it works to balance institutional sustainability with affordability for students across the country.
