NDC hails Mahama over introduction of special student loans for law students
The Director of Legal Affairs of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Eduzi Tameklo, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for the introduction of a special student loan scheme aimed at supporting professional law students.
According to Mr Tameklo, the initiative allows students at the professional level of legal education to apply for special student loans to help cushion the financial burden associated with law school training.
He described the policy as a “game-changer” that will significantly ease the hardships faced by law students.
Speaking on the development, Mr Tameklo recalled the financial struggles many students endured during his time in law school, noting that the cost of legal education has long posed a barrier to aspiring lawyers.
He said the new loan facility would promote greater access, equity, and inclusion in professional legal training.
“This is a major intervention that will open doors for many brilliant but financially constrained students,” he said, adding humorously that the initiative almost makes him wish he could return to law school to benefit from the policy.
The move has been welcomed by sections of the legal community and students, who say it reflects the government’s broader commitment to human capital development and support for professional education.
The special loan scheme is expected to reduce dropout rates, improve completion outcomes, and ultimately strengthen the legal profession by ensuring that financial constraints do not derail academic and professional aspirations.
