National Girls-in-ICT Initiative champions digital inclusion: Gender Minister rallies nation to invest in girls' tech future

The 2025 National Girls-in-ICT Initiative climaxed in a vibrant celebration on Wednesday, June 25, in Ho, Volta Region, with over 1,000 young girls proudly showcasing their newfound skills in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The programme, held under the theme “Girls in ICT for Inclusive Digital Transformation”, aims to bridge the gender digital divide by equipping girls with critical digital skills, inspiring confidence, and opening pathways to technology-driven careers.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Naa Momo Lartey, called on stakeholders across the nation to invest in the digital potential of girls.
The Gender Minister emphasised that the digital economy is no longer a futuristic concept but a current reality one in which women and girls must be fully included.
She acknowledged the historical marginalisation of females in ICT but noted that programmes like Girls-in-ICT are helping to reverse the trend.
Dr Lartey described the 1,000 girls trained in digital skills as ambassadors for ICT who are now equipped to return to their communities and create real impact.
“They are not just learners they are future drivers of digital change."
She encouraged the girls to apply their knowledge in solving local challenges, mentoring others, and becoming role models in their respective communities.
Out of the 1000 girls, 100 top-performing students from the training were awarded with a brand new laptop, a plaque, certificate, and cash prize.
Among them, three were adjudged national winners, including the overall winner 13-year-old Wosilatu Mohammed from Akatsico Practice School in Akatsi South.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting gender equity in technology and called on all sectors to support the momentum.
The Girls-in-ICT Initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation with support from partners including GIFEC, MTN Ghana, and KACE, continues to be a transformative force in Ghana’s journey toward inclusive digital development.
