E/R: Adeiso youth appeal to President Mahama to revive abandoned Jute sack factory
The long-abandoned Jute Sack Factory in Adeiso has become the centre of renewed appeals to the government, as local youth call on President John Dramani Mahama to operationalise the facility as part of the proposed 24-hour economy agenda.
Youth leader Mr. Bonsi Francis, speaking to Accra FM/CTV news reporter Apelete Kofi Michel, said the factory—established a decade ago but left unused—could play a transformative role in job creation, agricultural support, and national economic growth if revived.
Mr. Bonsi stressed that activating the plant would stimulate the local economy and help boost Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), noting the urgent need for employment opportunities in the area.
According to him, the factory is strategically positioned to support the envisioned 24-hour economy by producing jute sacks essential for storage and transportation within the agricultural value chain.
He explained that farmers across the country continue to suffer major post-harvest losses due to inadequate processing and storage facilities.
Reviving the Adeiso factory, he said, would help reduce these losses, improve food preservation, and create avenues for export.
The youth leader further urged the government to complement the reopening of the factory with increased investment in agriculture and technical training for local youth.
Equipping the young population with relevant skills, he said, would empower them to operate the facility efficiently and explore new opportunities in agribusiness.
Some youth in the community added that the factory holds “immense potential,” arguing that running it under a 24-hour system would ensure the smooth flow of goods and services, generate steady revenue, and contribute to sustained national development.
