Ghana’s Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, has reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to responsible and sustainable mining during his participation at the U.S.–Africa Critical Minerals Forum, hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.

Representing Ghana at the high-level event, Mr. Kofi-Buah underscored the country’s strategic role in the global clean energy transition, highlighting the government’s focus on ethical mineral extraction, environmental stewardship, and inclusive development.

“This isn’t just about extracting minerals — it’s about building a better future for everyone,” the Minister stated.

“Ghana is committed to responsible mining practices that position our nation at the heart of the world’s clean energy transformation.”

He noted that under President John Dramani Mahama’s Resetting Agenda, Ghana is pursuing a transparent and accountable natural resource economy that prioritises environmental protection, community welfare, and long-term national benefit.

Mr Kofi-Buah emphasised that Ghana’s approach to the mining sector is holistic — seeking not only to maximise mineral value but also to heal rivers, protect forests, and restore degraded lands affected by mining activities.

“As we forge new global partnerships, we remain dedicated to our work at home — ensuring that mining brings progress, not pain, to our communities,” he said.

The Minister further stressed that Ghana aims to be viewed not merely as a source of minerals but as a trusted global partner committed to ethical practices, sustainable growth, and the shared prosperity of its people.

The U.S.–Africa Critical Minerals Forum brought together African leaders, U.S. policymakers, and industry players to discuss strengthening collaboration in the sustainable extraction and processing of critical minerals essential for clean energy technologies such as electric vehicles and renewable power systems.

Mr. Kofi-Buah concluded by inviting investors and partners to engage with Ghana’s mining sector through the lens of transparency, sustainability, and innovation, reinforcing the country’s position as a leader in responsible resource management.
