President John Dramani Mahama has called upon Ghanaians, particularly members of the armed forces, to emulate the exemplary patriotism and dedication to national service demonstrated by the late Lieutenant General Arnold Quainoo.
He expressed concern that the growing emphasis on materialism is undermining the nation's sense of duty and responsibility.
Speaking at the funeral service held at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Burma Camp, President Mahama paid glowing tribute to the former Chief of Defence Staff, highlighting his distinguished military career.
He recounted Lt. Gen. Quainoo's leadership of the Ghanaian contingent during the Liberian civil war, noting his significant contributions to regional peace and stability.
Lt. Gen. Arnold Quainoo, who passed away on December 2, 2024, at the age of 85, served as Ghana's Chief of Defence Staff from August 1983 to September 1989.
He was also the inaugural commander of the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG), leading interventions to help end the Liberian civil war.
The President's tribute serves as a reminder of the values of selflessness and commitment to national duty, urging citizens to prioritize these ideals over material pursuits
