Oti: Tapa Abotoase youth demand urgent gov't intervention over poor roads and neglected market

The youth of Tapa Abotoase in the Oti Region are urgently calling on President John Dramani Mahama’s administration to address longstanding infrastructural challenges plaguing their community, particularly the dilapidated market and severely deteriorated road network.
In an interview with Class News, the Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Theophilus Otimfour, joined by concerned youth, expressed deep frustration over the neglect of critical infrastructure, describing the current state of roads as deplorable.
They revealed that residents often resort to organising communal labour to repair sections of the roads leading to the market—an effort they say reflects the community’s desperation and the government’s inaction.
According to the youth, repeated plans to stage demonstrations are frequently diffused by local authorities who promise intervention, only for those promises to go unfulfilled.
These broken assurances, they lament, have only heightened their sense of abandonment.
"We have contributed to national development, yet we have nothing to show for it," one of the youth leaders stated, emphasising that successive governments have failed to deliver meaningful development to the area.
They also expressed concern over the state of the Abotoase market, which they say generates significant revenue for the District Assembly but has seen little to no reinvestment.
The youth are appealing for immediate government attention to improve the road infrastructure and renovate the market, stressing that the continued neglect is stifling the economic potential and quality of life in Tapa Abotoase.
