The Private Security Guard Association of Ghana (PSGAG) has intensified its engagement with the government over challenges confronting the private security industry, holding two high-level meetings with key ministers to push for better working conditions and inclusion in national security planning.

On October 2, 2025, the Association met with the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed, and earlier on April 14, 2025, with the Minister for Labour and Employment,  Dr. Rashid Pelpuo.

Both meetings focused on improving welfare and addressing long-standing grievances of private security personnel across the country.

During the discussions, the Association highlighted major challenges, including low salaries despite long working hours, excessive shifts averaging 12 hours per day without overtime incentives, and the lack of insurance coverage for guards.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Fabea FM’s Apiah-Kubi, Mr. Roland Obibah Mensah, President of the PSGAG, appealed to the government to integrate private security guards into the proposed 24-hour economy programme.

“We want to be part of the 24-hour economy programme to provide security services for people working across the three shift schedules,” Obibah Mensah explained.

He revealed that both ministers gave assurances that private security guards would be considered for retraining and inclusion within the broader national security framework.

“We were assured that we’ll be retrained to meet the necessary standards to be part of the national security administration,” he added.

Mr. Obibah Mensah expressed appreciation to the two ministers for their commitment to strengthening collaboration with the private security sector and addressing systemic challenges affecting its workforce.

The PSGAG leadership also urged its members to remain calm and united while ongoing engagements with the government continue, expressing optimism that concrete policy measures will soon follow.

“We are determined to work with all stakeholders to ensure private security guards are recognised as integral partners in maintaining safety and order in Ghana,” Obibah Mensah concluded.

He commended the government’s renewed commitment to the welfare of private security guards, expressing confidence that a brighter and more dignified future awaits the sector
