Members of the Trans Africa Tourism and Unity Campaign are in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, for a series of high-level engagements aimed at advancing their call for a visa-free Africa by 2030.

The delegation led by the lead campaigner, Ras Muburak, will be holding talks with key policymakers and continental institutions to rally support for the free movement of people across African borders, a move they say is critical to boosting tourism, trade, regional integration, and economic growth.

As part of the visit, Ethiopia’s Minister for Tourism is scheduled to receive the group on behalf of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The meeting is expected to focus on strategies to accelerate efforts toward removing visa restrictions among African countries and fostering greater collaboration across the continent.

Ras Mubarak argues that easing travel barriers for Africans will unlock significant opportunities for intra-African tourism, business expansion, and cultural exchange.

On Friday, a member of the delegation will participate in a panel discussion organised by the African Union and the African Development Bank (AfDB), where stakeholders will deliberate on the continent’s development priorities and pathways to achieving seamless cross-border mobility.

Advocates of the initiative say the vision of a visa-free Africa aligns with broader continental goals under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the AU’s Agenda 2063 framework.

“Borders divide, free movement unites,” Mr Mubarak said, stressing that a visa-free Africa is essential to the continent’s renaissance and long-term prosperity.

The campaign continues to engage governments and regional bodies to build momentum toward the 2030 target.
