Baptist Medical Centre, Nalerigu pledges strong partnership with Ghana Medical Trust Fund
Management of the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu in the North-East Region has pledged its full support to partner with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) in delivering critical healthcare interventions to patients battling chronic non-communicable diseases.
The assurance was given during a visit by a delegation from the Trust Fund as part of its ongoing needs assessment tour of selected referral facilities in the newly created regions.
According to hospital authorities, a modest boost from the GMTF — particularly in the areas of retooling and advanced training for medical staff—would significantly enhance the facility’s capacity to support the Fund’s life-saving mandate.
Management noted that targeted investment in equipment and specialist training would position the hospital to deliver improved outcomes for patients requiring long-term and specialised care.
The Baptist Medical Centre serves as the main referral hospital in the North-East Region, providing healthcare services not only to residents of the region but also to patients from neighbouring regions and countries bordering Ghana to the north. Its strategic location makes it a critical hub for healthcare delivery in the northern corridor.
Despite operating with only five medical doctors, the hospital records an average of 100,000 Out-Patient Department (OPD) cases and more than 20,000 admissions annually.
The figures underscore both the institution’s importance and the significant strain placed on its limited human and material resources.
The GMTF delegation’s visit focused on assessing the hospital’s existing infrastructure and exploring practical partnership arrangements aimed at expanding access to specialist care for vulnerable populations.
The Trust Fund reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with key health institutions across the country to strengthen capacity and ensure equitable access to quality care for Ghanaians living with chronic conditions.
