Ghana records 14 new Mpox cases, total rises to 133 – Ghana Health Service

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 14 new cases of Mpox, bringing the country’s total case count to 133 since the virus was first detected in the country.
In a statement issued on Monday, the GHS noted that the new cases were recorded in multiple regions, prompting health authorities to intensify surveillance, contact tracing, and public education efforts to contain the spread of the disease.
The GHS emphasised that while the recent spike is concerning, the Service is actively monitoring the situation and is working closely with regional health directorates to ensure timely detection, isolation, and treatment of suspected cases.
Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral disease that spreads through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated material.
Symptoms include fever, rash, muscle aches, and swollen lymph nodes.
In some cases, the illness can lead to serious complications, especially in individuals with weakened immune systems.
The GHS urged the public to adhere strictly to personal hygiene protocols, avoid contact with persons showing symptoms of Mpox, and report suspected cases to the nearest health facility.
Health authorities have also reiterated that the country remains on high alert and is prepared to deploy additional medical resources to affected areas if the situation worsens.
The Ghana Health Service assured the public of its commitment to managing the outbreak while encouraging calm and vigilance as it continues nationwide efforts to combat the disease.
