Gov’t distributes GHS 500m medical equipment as part of rollout of Free Primary Healthcare initiative
The Minister of Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced the distribution of 24,534 medical equipment worth GHS 500 million to health facilities across Ghana, as part of the government's free primary healthcare programme.
The equipment includes blood pressure monitors, glucometers, baby incubators, oxygen concentrators, and X-ray machines, aimed at enhancing early detection and treatment of diseases, particularly Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
The distribution will prioritise primary healthcare facilities, district hospitals, and regional hospitals, with plans to expand to teaching hospitals.
The Minister emphasised the importance of proper maintenance and management of the equipment, issuing directives to health facilities on the use of internal funds for maintenance.
The programme is expected to improve healthcare services, reduce complications from NCDs, and support the government's healthcare agenda.
