Health Minister launches #FP2030 to promote reproductive rights and access to contraception

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has launched the #FP2030 initiative as part of Ghana’s continued efforts to ensure that women and girls have the freedom and ability to make informed choices about their reproductive health, including access to contraception and family planning services.
Speaking at the official launch, Mr. Akandoh emphasised Ghana’s longstanding commitment to reproductive health, dating back to the establishment of the National Family Planning Programme in 1960.
“We have worked hard to improve access to contraception and reproductive health services.
Today’s launch is a reaffirmation of our commitment to the future,” he said.
The FP2030 initiative, formerly known as Family Planning 2020, serves as a global partnership committed to advancing family planning as a cornerstone of health and development.
It operates on four guiding principles: voluntary, person-centred, and rights-based approaches with equity at the core; empowering women and girls while engaging men, boys, and communities; building equitable partnerships with adolescents, youth, and marginalised populations; and promoting country-led global cooperation focused on shared learning and accountability.
Mr. Akandoh highlighted that FP2030 aligns with Ghana’s broader health and development goals and reflects the government’s resolve to support the rights and health of all citizens, particularly women and girls.
