John Mahama pledges modern dialysis centres and chronic disease support fund

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to establish modern dialysis centres across Ghana to address the growing crisis of kidney disease if elected. Speaking at the inauguration of the Lordina Foundation Maternity and Children's Ward in Bodom, Mr Mahama emphasized the need for accessible healthcare services, especially for managing chronic illnesses.
“Kidney disease has become a pressing issue in Ghana.
Ensuring access to dialysis centres in every region will provide essential treatment within reach of all Ghanaians,” Mr Mahama stated.
Alongside the commitment to regional dialysis centres, Mr Mahama unveiled a plan to create the Ghana Medical Care Trust, known as Mahama Cares.
This comprehensive fund will support the management of chronic illnesses, covering conditions such as kidney disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, and sickle cell disease.
“This trust will be funded by both government and private contributions, providing financial assistance to those affected by chronic diseases and enhancing our healthcare infrastructure,” he explained.
Mr Mahama assured Ghanaians that these initiatives are part of a broader commitment to strengthening the healthcare system and ensuring that every citizen, regardless of location, has access to quality medical care.
