Joint security operatives storm 'Tasty Tom' factory over suspected unwholesome practices
A joint task force comprising officials from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), and National Security Operatives launched a surprise operation at the premises of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, manufacturers of Tasty Tom tomato paste, following a tip-off alleging unwholesome practices at the factory.
The operation, which took place at the company's facility in the Tema Industrial Area, was triggered by what sources described as a "hot and desperate tip-off" containing evidence pointing to possible health and safety violations in the production process.
Officials from the FDA have yet to publicly disclose the full details of the operation or the nature of the evidence obtained.
However, the exercise is believed to be part of a broader effort to crack down on food safety violations and ensure that manufacturers adhere strictly to health and regulatory standards.
Sources close to the investigation say samples have been collected from the facility for laboratory analysis, with further actions expected pending the outcome of the tests.
Neither Nutrifoods Ghana Ltd nor its parent company has issued a formal response as of the time of this report.
The FDA is expected to provide an official statement in the coming days.
