Lifeline for Childhood Cancer appeals for support to complete paediatric oncology Centre at Korle-Bu

The Executive Director of Lifeline for Childhood Cancer, Ghana, Ms. Akua Sarpong, has issued a heartfelt appeal for financial support to help complete a state-of-the-art pediatric oncology treatment center currently under construction at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The facility, when completed, is expected to significantly expand the hospital’s capacity to care for children diagnosed with cancer.
Speaking at a fundraising event in Accra, Ms. Sarpong stressed the urgent need for additional funding, revealing that while the total project cost is estimated at $1.6 million, only $452,000 has been raised so far.
“Every year, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital records between 250 and 280 new childhood cancer cases,” Ms. Sarpong noted.
“We urgently need this 40-bed comprehensive treatment centre to provide improved care and give children battling cancer a chance at life.”
She called on individuals, corporate bodies, and philanthropic organizations to rally behind the project, underscoring the emotional and financial toll childhood cancer places on families.
The centre is expected to offer not only advanced medical care but also a message of hope for a better future for children and families affected by childhood cancer in Ghana.
Ms. Sarpong emphasized that collective national action is essential to addressing this growing public health concern.
