Striking nurses resume tomorrow

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has officially called off its strike action after a crucial meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health.
At a press conference held in Accra, the President of the Association Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, announced the suspension of the industrial action and directed all members to resume work tomorrow.
She noted that the decision was taken in good faith to pave the way for continued negotiations on the implementation of the revised Conditions of Service.
The nationwide strike, which took full effect earlier this week, was in response to the government’s failure to implement the Collective Agreement signed with the Ministry of Health in May 2024.
The GRNMA leadership expressed frustration over the delays and called on the government to demonstrate commitment by honouring its obligations under the agreement.
While calling off the strike, the Association warned that any further inaction could severely impact healthcare delivery across the country.
They urged the government to act swiftly to address their concerns and avoid future disruptions within the health sector.
The GRNMA reaffirmed its commitment to constructive dialogue but stressed that it would not hesitate to take further action if the situation remains unresolved.
