Akufo-Addo to reflect on achievements in last SONA today
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will today address Parliament to deliver his final State of the Nation Address (SONA), marking the end of his tenure as President.
The address, mandated by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, will highlight key achievements under his administration, including efforts to revamp the economy, the Agenda 111 health infrastructure initiative, the One-District-One-Factory policy, and the construction of over 10,000 kilometers of roads. Others are the country's debt levels, Free Senior High School policy, the Planting for Food and Jobs and the governance situation of the country
This presentation will provide the President with an opportunity to account for his stewardship as he prepares to leave office on January 7, 2025.
Parliamentary Transition
The 8th Parliament of Ghana’s 4th Republic will be officially dissolved on Monday, January 6, 2025.
Later that evening, the 9th Parliament will convene at 11:00 PM to elect a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers to oversee legislative affairs for the next term.
At the stroke of midnight, the Speaker-elect and newly elected Members of Parliament will be sworn in, formally inaugurating the 9th Parliament and commencing a new chapter in Ghana’s governance.
