The Ashanti Regional Youth Organisers of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have strongly denied reports that they have endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s upcoming presidential primary.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, 29th October 2025, and signed by John Ntim Kusi, Youth Organiser for Fomena, on behalf of the group “Ashanti NPP Youth Organisers for Truth,” the youth leaders described the endorsement claims as false, misleading, and unauthorised.

The statement was released in response to a press conference held on Tuesday, 28th October 2025, during which a group of individuals claimed that Ashanti Regional Youth Organisers had publicly thrown their support behind Dr. Bawumia ahead of the NPP presidential primary slated for 31st January 2026.

A list of alleged endorsers was circulated, purportedly including the names of the organisers.

However, the youth leaders say their names were used without their knowledge or consent.

“We wish to state clearly and without ambiguity:
• We have not endorsed Dr. Bawumia.
• We have not authorised anyone to speak or act on our behalf.
• We do not know how our names were added to the so-called ‘DMB Ashanti Youth Organizers’ group,”
the statement read.

The organisers further condemned what they described as a “distasteful and disrespectful act,” noting that the name of their late colleague, Richard Kwateng, former Deputy Youth Organiser for Subin Constituency, who passed away, was also included in the list of supposed endorsers.

“His name appearing on the list is not only false but deeply disrespectful to his memory and family.

It raises serious concerns about the credibility and integrity of the claims being made,” the statement added.

Reaffirming their stance, the youth organisers emphasised that their support remains firmly with Dr. Bryan Acheampong, another contender in the NPP presidential race, and asserted their right to freely choose and declare their political preferences without coercion or misrepresentation.

The statement concluded with a call for honesty and decorum in the party’s internal politics, urging all factions to avoid acts that could sow division or tarnish the reputation of party members.
