Tensions have escalated within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region as party executives and members in the Assin Central Constituency have launched strong criticisms against the Central Regional Chairman, Prof Richard Kofi Aseidu, following the arrest of three branch executives.

The three were reportedly picked up by police after holding a press conference accusing the Regional Chairman of bribery. According to the constituency executives, the arrested members alleged that Prof. Aseidu had offered "losing bonuses" to Assembly Members to vote against President Mahama’s Municipal Chief Executive nominee for the Assin Central Municipal Assembly, Madam Charlotte Boakye.

At a press briefing, the visibly upset Assin Central NDC executives condemned the arrests and demanded the immediate release of their colleagues.

They insisted that the three had committed no crime but had simply exercised their right to question actions that they believe are harming the party's unity and credibility in the constituency.

“These are the same branch executives who campaigned vigorously to secure votes for the NDC in the 2024 general elections. Arresting them for expressing concern over internal matters is unjust,” they stated.

The executives, accompanied by several party members, later stormed the Twifo Atti Morkwa District Police Station to express their displeasure and solidarity with the detained individuals.

They accused the Regional Chairman of being behind the arrests as an act of retaliation for the press conference held against him.

The constituency executives claimed that his actions are gradually eroding the party’s support base in Assin Central.

They further appealed to the national leadership of the NDC to intervene and call Prof. Aseidu to order.

Failure to do so, they warned, could cost the party dearly in the 2028 general elections.

Madam Charlotte Boakye, the rejected MCE nominee, also weighed in, calling on the national leadership to investigate the role of the Regional Chairman in the growing divisions within the constituency.

“If the party truly wants to return to power in 2028, it must act now. The Regional Chairman’s conduct is undermining our collective efforts,” she said.

The Assin Central executives also issued a stern warning: if the three detained branch executives are not released immediately, they will stage a massive demonstration and boycott all party activities in protest.

They concluded with a call for transparency, fairness, and unity within the party, stressing that only through honest leadership can the NDC hope to regain public trust and win future elections.
