E/R: Fmr NDC women's organiser, Evelyn Korang, makes history elected to Council of State

Evelyn Korang, a former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Eastern Regional Women's Organiser, has been elected as the region's representative to the Council of State.
Out of 66 votes, Ms Korang polled 17 votes. Thus, she bested her closest contender, Nana Afia Asante Afrifah who received 12 votes.
While, there were 13 contenders who polled no votes, 9 others did, and they were: Asiedu Ofei (9 votes), John Owusu-Amankrah (eight votes), Glenda Mills-Theile (four votes), Yaw Adu-Amponsah (3 votes), Nana Effah Opinamang III (three votes), Seth Adjei Baah (three votes), Oseadeeyo Frimpong Manso IV (three votes), Nana Asante Yamoah Afrifah (two votes) and Asare Kwaku Kwatia (two votes).
Ms Korang’s victory is historic as it marks the first time a woman has won the Council of State election in the Eastern region.
She thanked delegates who demonstrated their confidence in her, assuring chiefs and residents of the region she would work hand-in-hand with President John Mahama to secure the development of their land.
Meanwhile, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, Eastern Regional Minister, has congratulated Evelyn Korang on her victory, saying Ms Korang stood for good fortunes for the region.
