Haruna Iddrisu accuses NPP of vote-buying

Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for alleged vote-buying activities during Ghana’s general election, accusing the party of undermining the democratic process.
Speaking to the media after casting his vote, Mr Iddrisu claimed the NPP had turned the electoral process into a transactional exercise, using financial inducements to influence voters.
He described the alleged actions as a violation of electoral laws and an affront to the principles of democracy.
"Under the NPP, it is no longer considered an offence to openly buy votes and reduce elections to financial transactions. That’s inducement, and it’s a criminal act under electoral laws," Mr Iddrisu said.
The former Minority Leader also expressed frustration over what he called a deterioration of governance under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership. He pointed to an incident at a polling station in Tamale where NPP supporters were reportedly chased away after allegedly attempting to distribute money to voters.
"This is unacceptable and very shameful. It’s a disgrace that Nana Addo would allow the country to sink to these low levels of governance. Such actions have no place in a democracy," he added.
The NPP is yet to respond to the allegations, which come amid heightened tensions in the fiercely contested election.
