Ho West MP challenges Minority's stance on ORAL Committee summons
The Member of Parliament for Ho West Constituency in the Volta Region, Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzra, has questioned the Minority in Parliament’s call for former government appointees to boycott summons by the Operation Retrieve All Loots(ORAL) Committee.
The Minority, during a press conference yesterday, criticized the legal authority of the ORAL Committee, which was established by President John Dramani Mahama as part of the NDC’s campaign promise to recover alleged misappropriated state funds.
Speaking to Class News, Mr. Bedzra urged former government appointees to cooperate with the committee, asserting that its mandate is in line with promoting transparency and accountability.
“The ORAL Committee’s work is critical to ensuring public trust in governance.
Former appointees should engage with the process if they have nothing to hide,” the Ho West MP stated.
Mr. Bedzra suggested that the Minority’s reaction might stem from unwarranted apprehension.
“Their stance could be seen as a panic reaction.
Cooperation with the committee will demonstrate their commitment to accountability,” he added.
The ORAL Committee, tasked with investigating alleged financial irregularities under previous administrations, is central to the government’s pledge to combat corruption and recover state resources, he concluded.
