Interior and Defence Committee of Parliament awaits full investigation report on military recruitment stampede
The Vice Chairperson of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Mr Peter Lanchene Toobu, has assured the public that the Committee is closely monitoring ongoing inquiries into the military recruitment stampede, which occurred during the recent Ghana Armed Forces enlistment exercise.
Speaking during an engagement on 16th November 2025, Mr Toobu emphasised that the Committee is expecting a comprehensive report from the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
He stated that the Committee would only act on the findings if the report proves credible and thorough.
“What we expect as the Interior Committee is to get the NIB report and if it's worth it, we will run with it,” he noted.
The recruitment exercise, which attracted thousands of applicants, reportedly led to chaotic scenes as crowds surged in an attempt to secure entry, prompting calls for a full probe into crowd control measures and the planning process.
Mr Toobu reiterated the Committee’s commitment to accountability and transparency, stressing that ensuring the safety of citizens during national recruitment processes remains a top priority.
The Defence and Interior Committee is expected to issue further directives once the investigation report is submitted.
