Minority Leader criticises NPP leadership for economic failures
The Minority Leader of the 8th Parliament, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has expressed his disappointment with the performance of the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, predicting that future generations will judge its leadership harshly.
Speaking during the final sitting of the 8th Parliament, Dr Ato Forson accused the NPP administration of ignoring critical warnings about the dangers of excessive borrowing.
He noted that the failure to heed these cautions had plunged the nation into economic difficulties, the effects of which will be felt for years to come.
The outgoing Minority Leader stressed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) consistently raised concerns over the unsustainable fiscal policies adopted by the NPP government.
According to him, these warnings were dismissed, leaving the country burdened with an unprecedented level of debt and a compromised economy.
“Posterity will vindicate the NDC,” he stated. “We cautioned the NPP government against reckless borrowing, but they refused to listen. The consequences are evident for all to see, and history will judge them accordingly.”
Dr Ato Forson added that the outgoing government’s inability to manage the economy effectively had not only eroded public trust but also placed an undue burden on Ghanaians.
He lamented the missed opportunities to strengthen the nation’s economy during the NPP’s tenure.
As the 8th Parliament concludes, Dr Forson’s remarks highlight the Minority’s continued commitment to holding the executive accountable.
He urged the incoming administration to prioritise economic recovery and governance that serves the interests of the Ghanaian people.
