The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region has dismissed the Second Vice Chairman of its Pusiga Constituency, Sawuda Bilgumsey, following serious allegations of fraud involving over one million Ghana cedis.

According to the party’s Regional Disciplinary Committee, Mr. Bilgumsey allegedly defrauded nearly 100 individuals under the guise of securing them recruitment into the security services.

He is also barred indefinitely from holding any party office until he refunds the full amount in question.

Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP, Lawyer Anthony Namoo, condemned the act, describing it as deeply damaging to the party’s credibility.

“He used his position to deceive people. Even though he didn’t amputate the party, his conduct under the colour of his office brought the name of the party into disrepute,” Mr. Namoo stated.

The action against Bilgumsey forms part of a broader disciplinary crackdown following the 2024 general elections.

A total of 16 other party officials and members from the Pusiga and Tempane constituencies have been penalised for various acts of misconduct.

The disciplinary measures follow investigations launched on January 25, 2025, after multiple complaints of anti-party behaviour.

The hearings were conducted from March 22 to 23 at the NPP Regional Secretariat in Bolgatanga.

Removed and Banned (5 years):

Emmanuel Awinimi Atesiba – Constituency Communications Officer

Jacob Akazusah – Treasurer

Musah Awudu – 1st Vice Chairman

Suspended:

Agbango Jonathan Akugri – 4 years

Ayaaba Jacob Asaman – 3 years

Cautioned or Penalised for Non-compliance:

Edward Atule Akwaka and Alhassan Abusang were sanctioned for refusing to appear before the committee.

However, not all those accused were found guilty.

Five members, including Salifu Ibn Adams (Constituency Research and Elections Officer) and Haruna Salam (Assistant Secretary), were exonerated after the hearings.

The party's regional leadership says these decisions are aimed at restoring discipline, integrity, and public trust in the NPP, as it prepares for future electoral contests.
