Speaker Bagbin postpones commencement of Parliament’s third meeting

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has announced the postponement of the commencement of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
In a statement issued from his office on Monday, October 6, 2025, the Speaker said the decision was taken due to circumstances beyond his control.
“Pursuant to the notice to summon Parliament dated 29th September 2025, I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, hereby give notice that the commencement of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic is deferred until further notice due to circumstances beyond my control,” the statement read.
The notice, personally signed by the Speaker, did not disclose the specific reasons for the deferment or indicate when Parliament is expected to reconvene.
The Third Meeting of Parliament was anticipated to consider a number of key legislative matters, including the review of bills and government policy statements in preparation for the 2026 fiscal year.
The postponement means Members of Parliament (MPs) will have to await a new date from the Speaker’s office for the official resumption of parliamentary proceedings.
