The Sunyani Traditional Council has held a two-day capacity-building workshop to equip chiefs and queen-mothers within the traditional area with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively perform their traditional and administrative duties.

The workshop covered key topics such as leadership, customary law, conflict resolution, and mediation, among others — all aimed at strengthening traditional governance and promoting harmony within the Sunyani Traditional Area.

Speaking at the event, the Acting President of the Sunyani Traditional Council and Akwamuhene of Sunyani, Nana Kwaku Sarbeng, explained that the initiative was designed to educate and empower traditional leaders to carry out their responsibilities more efficiently.

He noted that this is the first time the Council has organised such a programme and commended the Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, for his foresight and leadership in initiating the training.

“This marks the beginning of many developmental programmes the Traditional Council has lined-up to improve the lives of our people in Sunyani,” Nana Sarbeng stated.

Participants expressed satisfaction with the workshop, describing it as insightful and beneficial.

The Ninfahene of Sunyani, Nana Addea Kuntuma, said the seminar had broadened his understanding of how to balance customary practices with legal frameworks to prevent chieftaincy disputes.

“This workshop has taught me how to blend both customs and the law to achieve a common goal and avoid conflicts,” he said.

The Sompa Hemaa of Sunyani, Nana Akosua Akomah Dankere, also used the opportunity to encourage her fellow queen-mothers to ensure they are properly gazetted by the National House of Chiefs, emphasising that formal recognition enhances their legitimacy and effectiveness in community leadership.
