Ursula launches Girls in ICT Trust
Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has launched a "Girls in ICT Trust" initiative aimed at empowering young women and girls in the field of information and communication technology (ICT).
This initiative is part of Ghana's broader efforts to promote gender equality and boost the participation of women in technology sectors.
By providing resources, training, and support, the Girls in ICT Trust under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation seeks to bridge the gender gap in the tech industry, foster digital literacy, and create opportunities for girls to pursue careers in ICT.
The Trust is a non-profit organisation based on experiences from 12 years of implementing GIICT day program, according to Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
Developing training and support networks in all 16 regions, the Trust will train over 9000 young girls annually.
The trust focuses on several key areas:
Education and Training: Offering workshops, coding bootcamps, and mentorship programs to equip girls with essential ICT skills.
Scholarships and Funding: Providing financial support for girls pursuing ICT-related studies and projects.
Advocacy and Awareness: Raising awareness about the importance of gender diversity in technology and advocating for policies that support women in ICT.
Partnerships and Collaboration: Collaborating with schools, universities, tech companies, and non-profits to create a supportive ecosystem for girls in ICT.
This initiative is expected to significantly impact the lives of many young women in Ghana.
