Ursula tours Girls-in-ICT training centres in Accra

The Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has toured some training centres of the Girls-In-ICT programme in the Greater Accra Region.
Accompanied by some officials of the Ministry and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (KACE), the Minister visited training centres in the Ayawaso Central, Ga North, Ablekuma West, Ablekuma North and the Weija-Gbawe constituencies all in the Greater Accra Region.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful expressed satisfaction with the training.
"I am quite pleased with the quality of instructions provided by the facilitators and the remarkable passion displayed by the young ladies in their pursuit of knowledge.
These young ladies are able to create websites and games in just one week of lessons, which is very remarkable." she noted.
She encouraged the young girls to take advantage of the opportunities ICT offers people globally.
She said just as their male counterparts, the young girls could leverage ICT to create jobs for themselves and become competitive in the job market.
Girls-in-ICT programme is part of the government's commitment to bridging the gender gap in Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the country.
About 1000 basic school girls are being trained with basic ICT skills in the Greater Accra Region under the programme.
