GFA defends Black Stars technical team expansion
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has defended its decision to expand the Black Stars’ technical team, describing it as a strategic move to boost the senior national team ahead of upcoming international fixtures and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Five additional backroom staff have been appointed to strengthen coaching support, performance monitoring, medical services, and match analysis under head coach Otto Addo.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum rejected claims that the expansion is a financial burden, emphasizing that the association’s priority is improving the team’s competitiveness.
“It is unfortunate for anyone to describe this as a waste of money. That has never been the goal of the FA,” Twum told Akoma FM.
He added that the aim is to ensure the Black Stars have the best expertise available. “Our goal at the World Cup is to make an impact, and we can only achieve that with the best expertise guiding us. We believe these coaches will take us where we want to be,” he said.
Twum also pointed out that Ghana’s technical team is still smaller than those of many other countries. “When you compare the coaches we have assembled with those of other countries, ours are even fewer in number. This is not about increasing the headcount, but about ensuring we put forward the very best to compete at the highest level,” he explained.
He urged supporters to be patient, expressing confidence that the impact of the expanded technical team would soon be visible.
“In time, everyone will testify to the impact these additions will have on our progress,” he affirmed.
