The Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Mr. Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo, has been honoured as the Energy Sector CEO of the Year at the 10th Ghana CEO Summit held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.

The prestigious recognition marks the second consecutive year that Mr. Obeng-Kenzo has received the award, having first been honoured in 2025. The achievement underscores his growing influence and leadership within Ghana’s energy sector and highlights the significant strides made by the Authority under his stewardship.

Mr Obeng-Kenzo was recognised for his exemplary leadership, strategic vision and outstanding contribution to the growth and transformation of Ghana’s energy industry. The award was presented by Togbi Afede XIV, amid resounding applause from participants and industry leaders gathered at the summit.

The award celebrates exceptional leadership among chief executives in Ghana’s energy sector whose efforts have contributed significantly to the socio-economic development of the country. VRA’s performance in 2025 was particularly instrumental in securing the recognition, as the Authority successfully delivered reliable electricity to meet rising national demand during a period of increased energy consumption.

The Authority was also commended for its role as a dependable provider of affordable electricity, not only for Ghana but also for countries within the West African sub-region. Industry observers noted that VRA’s operational achievements have reinforced its position as a key driver of economic growth and national development.

According to the citation, Mr. Obeng-Kenzo’s leadership has propelled the Authority forward by enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening institutional performance and consolidating VRA’s reputation as one of the leading power generation companies in the region.

A delegation from the VRA joined the Chief Executive at the ceremony. Members included Mr. Samel Kwesi Fletcher, Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Services; Mr. Jacob Fosu Kyei, Director of Procurement; Mr. Clement Boakye, Director of Corporate Strategy; and Mr. Joyce Offei Asiedu, Director of Human Resources, alongside other officials of the Authority.

As part of its participation in the summit, VRA also showcased its Value Added Services and training programmes offered through the VRA Academy at exhibition booths set up during the event. The exhibition provided an opportunity for the Authority to increase brand visibility, engage stakeholders and promote its expanding range of services.

The latest recognition further cements VRA’s reputation as a leading force in Ghana’s energy sector and reflects the impact of Mr. Obeng-Kenzo’s leadership in advancing the Authority’s mandate of providing reliable and sustainable energy for national development.
