Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor Johnson Pandit Asiama, together with First Deputy Governor Zakari Mumuni and members of the central bank’s board and senior management, paid a courtesy call on the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, on Thursday as part of the bank’s nationwide stakeholder engagements.

The meeting, held in Dormaa, was also attended by staff of the Bank of Ghana’s Sunyani Regional Office.

The engagement was aimed at strengthening relations between the central bank and traditional authorities and expressing appreciation for their support and cooperation, the Bank of Ghana said.

The courtesy call forms part of a broader nationwide stakeholder engagement programme being undertaken by the central bank in regions where it has offices.

The engagements are intended to provide an opportunity for the Bank of Ghana to interact directly with key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, businesses and financial institutions, and to explain its policies and economic priorities.

The central bank has in recent months stepped up engagement with stakeholders as it seeks to improve communication and transparency around monetary policy and financial-sector developments.

At a separate stakeholder engagement in Sunyani on Wednesday, Asiama said Ghana’s economy remained resilient, with first-quarter economic growth reaching 6.4%, while inflation stood at 5.3% in June.

He also said Ghana’s foreign exchange reserves stood at about US$12.9 billion, equivalent to around five months of import cover.

The Bank of Ghana’s Monetary Policy Committee last month maintained its policy rate at 14%, balancing the need to contain inflation with supporting economic growth.
