GOLDBOD generated ¢970m in non-tax revenue in 2025 – Sammy Gyamfi
The Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) generated ¢970 million in non-tax revenue for the state in 2025 through assay fees charged on gold transactions, its Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has revealed.
“GOLDBOD’s non-tax revenue was ¢970 million in 2025,” he said.
He explained that the amount was generated from “the assay fees GOLDBOD charges the Bank of Ghana and other licensed gold-buying companies.”
Assaying involves testing gold to determine its purity and other characteristics needed to establish its value.
Mr Gyamfi said the fees form part of GOLDBOD’s operations and are paid by institutions and licensed operators that use its assaying services.
He said the revenue demonstrates the potential of Ghana’s gold sector to generate additional income for the state when activities are properly regulated and accounted for.
Beyond assay fees, Mr Gyamfi said GOLDBOD is working to formalise the domestic gold trade, improve foreign exchange mobilisation and support the accumulation of Ghana’s gold reserves.
The reforms, he noted, are intended to ensure that Ghana retains a greater share of the value generated from its gold resources.
