The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has warned the public and licensed financial institutions against dealing with 20 unlicensed digital credit service providers operating in the country.

In a public notice signed by the Secretary to the Bank, Aimee Vyda Quashie, and dated August 3, 2026 (Notice No. BG/GOV/SEC/2026/25), the central bank said it had observed the continued operation of entities offering digital loans without its approval.

The BoG referred to an earlier notice (Notice No. BG/GOV/SEC/2026/22) and said the companies were operating "without the requisite licence or authorisation from the Bank of Ghana" in breach of the Directive for Digital Credit Service Providers in Ghana (September 2025), published under Notice No. BG/GOV/SEC/2025/30, as well as other relevant laws.
