Ghana’s GDP per capita rises 18.6% in 2025 – GSS
The Ghana Statistical Service has announced that Ghana’s GDP per capita rose to GH¢42,502 in 2025, up from GH¢35,834 in 2024, marking an increase of 18.6 per cent.
Presenting the provisional December 2025 Monthly Indicators of Economic Growth on March 17, Government Statistician Dr Alhassan Iddrisu noted that income per person also recorded notable gains when measured in US dollar terms.
The data shows that economic activity strengthened in the final quarter of 2025, with growth reaching 5.8 per cent, compared to 4.0 per cent in the same period a year earlier.
This expansion was largely supported by the non-oil sector, which grew by 7.1 per cent, an improvement from 4.8 per cent recorded in the fourth quarter of 2024.
The agriculture sector also recorded stronger performance, expanding by 5.3 per cent, up from 3.2 per cent. This was mainly driven by the crops subsector, which grew by 6.6 per cent, while cocoa output rebounded with a 3.0 per cent increase after declining by 12.8 per cent the previous year.
The industrial sector posted a modest growth of 1.9 per cent, compared to 0.3 per cent in 2024. However, its overall performance was affected by a 16.8 per cent drop in oil and gas production, despite improvements in manufacturing, which grew by 6.1 per cent, and electricity, which increased by 7.2 per cent.
The services sector continued to lead the economy, expanding by 8.6 per cent. It accounted for over half of total GDP and contributed the largest share of overall growth.
Economic activity also picked up in December 2025, with the Monthly Index of Economic Growth rising to 123.9 from 112.5 in December 2024, representing a 10.1 per cent year-on-year increase.
The growth was observed across all major sectors, led by services at 12.9 per cent, followed by agriculture at 5.7 per cent and industry at 4.3 per cent, reflecting a broad-based improvement in economic performance.
