Gov’t targets investments that create jobs, boost local production
The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, says government is targeting investments that create jobs, transfer technology and strengthen local production as part of efforts to transform Ghana’s economy.
She says the government’s investment promotion strategy goes beyond attracting capital into the country with a focus on investments that can increase productivity, develop local supply chains and add value to Ghana’s natural resources.
Speaking at the launch of the Invest Ghana Summit and the 22nd Ghana Club 100 Awards, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare said government cannot build the new economy alone and would continue to work with the private sector and other stakeholders.
“Our approach to investment promotion goes beyond attracting capital to Ghana. We are targeting the right investment, investment that creates jobs, transfers technology, develops local supply chains, raises productivity, adds value to our natural resources and positions Ghana’s businesses to compete successfully in the region and in global markets" she said.
The Minister said the partnership between government and the private sector is central to achieving the country’s economic transformation agenda.
“Government is not building the new economy alone. We are forging strong and sustained partnership with the private sector, domestic and foreign investors, financial institution, development partners and other stakeholders. This is why the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry and GIPA are working more closely together than ever" she emphasised.
She further highlighted the Invest Ghana Summit as an important platform for connecting investors with government institutions, businesses, financial institutions and development partners.
According to her, the summit will also help showcase Ghana’s investment potential and present bankable opportunities across key sectors and regions.
“The Invest Ghana Summit provides an important opportunity to showcase Ghana’s investment potential, present bankable opportunities across key sectors and regions and connect investors with government institutions, businesses, financial institutions and development partners" she stated.
Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare added that the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry will work closely with the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) to ensure that opportunities presented through the summit result in tangible investments.
She also said particular attention would be given to manufacturing, agribusiness, agro-processing and export-oriented industries which, she noted, are important to strengthening Ghana’s productive capacity and supporting the objectives of the 24-hour economy.
“We therefore look forward to working closely with GIPA to ensure that the opportunities presented through the summit translate into tangible investment that strengthen Ghana’s productive capacity and enhance our competitiveness in the global economy” she added.
The Minister also urged businesses and investors to use the summit to build partnerships, explore investment opportunities and contribute to Ghana’s economic transformation.
